May 18, 2018: Yet another big, successful day for the National Republican Blood Drive. How many gallons are enough for Smiling Paul Ryan (pictured here), Mitch The Treason Turtle, and SeƱor Trumpanzee?

Always fun to always blame the Republican party for all the problems. Great job.

Yeah, Noah. Please list all the progress the democraps made after the equally horrifying list of mass casualty events during times when they had congress and/or the WH.

It's the same fucking list.

The "democrats" have been useless regarding firearms legislation since they allowed the Warren Commission to lie and mislead the American People away from the evidence of the coup d'etat of November 1963.

The 1994 AWB, authored by Sen. Feinstein (D-CA) was passed by a majority Democrat vote and signed into law by Democrat President Bill Clinton. It was watered down but it was a try. It was for 10 years and was not renewed. Mass shootings have been on the increase since it expired. The worst were committed with the weapons once banned by the AWB.

9:18, figured someone would mention the brady bill. Took a decade of groveling and lobbying by Brady himself. And the 'craps did put a sunset on it. So, end of the day, they didn't do shit. Rather than "a try", I'd call it "an illusion" so liberals would still believe in them while $hillbillarycare (a more 'rube goldberg' version of obamneycare) was crashing and burning.

The sunset was utter cowardice. The refusal to even attempt renewal was utter corruption. Notable that 2009 with their +65 in the house and 60 in the senate... no attempt at all.

Plenty of high stacks of corpses have been achieved without AR15s. VA Tech was handguns. TX last week was a shotgun and pistol.

Also, Columbine happened in 1999. Brady didn't slow down harris and klebold at all.

American lives are unfulfilled until such a person gets to kill someone with a gun.

11:50 - No one brought up the Brady Bill and conflating it with the AWB to make your point only reveals your disingenuousness and your desire for attention. As for the handguns vs. assault weapons issue, read more carefully and slowly. I only said that the worst shootings since the expiration of the AWB (2004) were committed with assault weapons. Worst. Got that? That such assault weapon shootings have been on the increase since then can only be denied by fools. Yes, the Brady Bill didn't slow down the Columbine shooters in 1999 but I'm glad they didn't have a couple of AR-15s. It's a good bet that the AWB, enacted the year after the Brady Bill in 1994, prevented the Columbine shooters from getting their hands on AR-15s or similar in 1999. If they had them, the carnage would have been far worse, much like the assault weapon shootings of recent years. So the idea of the AWB is still worth striving for. In fact, any of the mass shootings, including last week's, done with hand guns, shotguns, and rifles would have been significantly worse with military grade assault weapons. I'm glad the Texas shooter didn't have and AR-15 even though it would have been so easy for him, or the next guy like him, to get one. I'm done. I prefer to discuss such things with clear heads and sincere people. Now go back under your bridge and have a nice life.

Richard - you picked up on the Anonymous writer who constantly rants about "democraps". This moron dominates the discussion on this blog and most people are really very tired of the same rants over and over. You provide an excellent analysis of the disgrace of the bastardized version of the Second Amendment dominating all of our lives. Charlie Pierce says the Second Amendment is the only amendment to the Constitution that requires blood to be shed.

No. Actually, most people are not tired. Actually, most people are REALLY TIRED of what Noah did, which is conveniently blaming the GOP for everything.

Richard, I was not disagreeing with you... you should read more carefully also.

AWB would be useful. But it's not the solution, as I pointed out. The TX shooter didn't have an AR15 only because his daddy didn't have one for him to use. pure luck. But he, the columbine and VA Tech assholes and others didn't need them for high body counts.

Instead of figuring out how to turn 50-dead incidents into only 8-dead, we should be figuring out how to stop them entirely.

My whole point is what 8:20 discerned. So, kudos to you.

8:20, Neither the meme or Noah's comment blame the republicans for "everything" or the shootings. The meme points out the fact that the republicans, who are in charge of all branches of government, including the Supreme Court, have engaged in an abdication of their duty to address the problem. Noah asks what will it take for them to do their duty to country. The Ryan quotes and the headline of the meme show how Ryan has turned his back on the problem, and therefore his country, not caused it. At least that is how I read it. I can see how others might take it as the inaction of Ryan and his party as enabling continuing bloodshed.
